What a Wedding Monogram Light Actually Costs

Cost & pricing 2 min read

The price of a wedding monogram light is one line in a budget that has four. The other three are where projects run over.

Four cost lines, not one

The unit price is the smallest line in most wedding monogram light budgets and the only one anybody quotes. Hardware, custom artwork, installation and the replacement cycle are the other three, and on a five-year view they routinely exceed the cost of the fixture. Price all four or you will be surprised twice.

  • Hardware — the fixture, lens and bracket
  • Custom artwork — the gobo, and every re-cut after it
  • Installation — access, power and making good
  • Running cost — cleaning, power and replacement cycles

What you pay for the fixture

Price follows the thermal and environmental specification more than the marketing category. A wedding monogram light built for a dance floor centre will cost more than one for a feature wall behind the head table for reasons that are entirely justified — better seals, better heatsinking, better finish. The saving is real only if you never needed them.

  • Output, which sets the LED, driver and heatsink size
  • Ingress rating, which sets the sealing and housing design
  • Lens quality, which sets how much output reaches the wall
  • Finish and hardware, which set how it survives the site

The recurring line

Custom artwork is the recurring line, and the one that gets forgotten. Every rebrand, every new branch, every seasonal change means another gobo; if you are running a wedding monogram light across several sites, that is a standing cost, not an one-off. Standardise the gobo size across the estate and reorders become cheap and quick.

  1. Engraving per unit, and any minimum quantity
  2. Artwork preparation if the supplied file needs work
  3. Shipping, especially on small reorders
  4. Lead time, and the cost of waiting

Installation, power and access

The surprise lines are access and power. A wedding monogram light that needs a cherry picker, or a new switched spur run across a finished ceiling, can cost more to install than to buy. Both are visible in a ten-minute survey, which is why the survey is the cheapest part of the job.

  1. Access equipment — ladder, scaffold or powered platform
  2. Power run and any making good afterwards
  3. Out-of-hours or trading-hours working
  4. Fixings, bracket and cable management

Total cost of ownership

Over three years the honest ranking usually changes. Add the hardware, the artwork reorders, the cleaning and the electricity, and the cheapest wedding monogram light on the unit price is rarely the cheapest to own. The two variables that dominate are servicing access and gobo replacement frequency.

PowerContinuouslyWattage and daily run hours

Cuts that cost you later

Spend on the survey and the artwork, save on the headline wattage. A correctly sized wedding monogram light, aimed at a well-chosen surface, beats an over-specified one pointed at the wrong wall — and costs less to buy and to run.

  1. Reduce the image size before increasing the output
  2. Standardise the gobo size across every site
  3. Choose a surface with lower ambient light
  4. Keep the original vector artwork file

Common questions

Can I project my own logo?

Yes — that is the point of a wedding monogram light. Supply vector artwork if you have it, and check the thinnest stroke in the design, because that is what determines whether a glass gobo is required. Most artwork problems show up as lost detail rather than a failed unit.

Can the image be changed later?

Yes, and this is the main reason to choose a wedding monogram light over a fixed sign. Swapping a gobo takes minutes with a spare on hand. The lead time is in getting the new one cut, which is why keeping the original artwork file matters.

Is a wedding monogram light suitable for outdoor use?

Only with the right rating. Look for IP20 on the housing and check that the cable gland is included in that rating, because the entry point is where water actually gets in. Exposure, salt air and access for servicing all matter as much as the number.
