What to check on the first visit
The three survey failures are power, surface and access. No socket within reach, a target surface that is glossy or patterned, and a mounting point that needs scaffolding to reach — any of these turns an one-hour high power gobo projector install into a two-visit job. All three are visible in ten minutes on site.

Getting the geometry right before it is fixed
Mounting height is a compromise between throw angle and accessibility. A high power gobo projector mounted flat-on to the wall gives the squarest image, but the further off-axis it sits the more keystone distortion you get — the image becomes a trapezoid. Keep the beam as close to perpendicular as the site allows, and prefer a position you can reach with a short ladder rather than a cherry picker.

Aiming, zooming and focusing
Do the final focus at the hour the unit will actually run, with the surface at its normal temperature. A high power gobo projector focused on a cold wall at 9am can drift slightly as the housing warms, and on long throws that drift is the difference between crisp and acceptable.

Power, cable routing and switching
Fit the cable gland the right way up and leave a drip loop. Those two details prevent most of the water ingress calls on outdoor high power gobo projector installs. Then confirm the supply is switched and labelled, so the site team can isolate the unit without hunting through a distribution board.

Test it the way it will be used
Test the way it will be used, not the way it was installed. Run the high power gobo projector at the hour it is meant to run, with the house lights at their normal setting, and look at the image from where the audience will stand. A unit that looks fine at 2pm in an empty room can be invisible at 7pm with the lights on.

What the site team needs on paper
Write down the settings. A high power gobo projector reinstalled after decoration, or a second unit ordered to match the first, is only reproducible if somebody recorded the throw, the lens setting and the gobo reference. Put it in the site folder and send a copy to whoever will order the replacement.
