Installing a Custom Business Logo Projection Light: A Site-Ready Walkthrough

Installation 2 min read

A custom business logo projection light is easy to mount and easy to mount wrong. The faults that generate callouts are almost always settled in the first hour on site, before any tool comes out of the bag.

What to check on the first visit

A custom business logo projection light install is mostly survey work. Walk the site at the hour the projection will run, because the ambient light, the position of vehicles, and even the position of a display stand all change what works. Take a photo, measure the throw, and mark the cable route before ordering anything.

  1. Power within reach of the mounting point
  2. What the target surface is made of and how it is lit
  3. Whether the mounting point carries the weight
  4. Access for future servicing — ladder or powered platform

Getting the geometry right before it is fixed

Mounting height is a compromise between throw angle and accessibility. A custom business logo projection light mounted flat-on to the wall gives the squarest image, but the further off-axis it sits the more keystone distortion you get — the image becomes a trapezoid. Keep the beam as close to perpendicular as the site allows, and prefer a position you can reach with a short ladder rather than a cherry picker.

Aiming, zooming and focusing

Focus on the centre, then check the edges. A custom business logo projection light focused on a flat wall should read evenly corner to corner; if it does not, the usual cause is an angled mount rather than a bad lens. Once you are happy, lock the focus if the unit allows it, because vibration and thermal cycling will otherwise move it over a season.

The part that fails inspection, not the optics

Route the cable as if somebody will try to unplug it, because somebody will. Use a switched, protected supply, keep the run out of reach where possible, and make sure the connection point is accessible for service without dismantling the custom business logo projection light. If the install is outdoors, the cable entry — not the housing — is the most likely place for water to get in.

  • Fixed, switched, protected supply
  • Cable gland rated for the environment, fitted with a drip loop
  • Run out of reach and out of the cleaning route
  • Connection point accessible without dismantling the unit

Test it the way it will be used

Commission in three checks: image sharpness at the corners, contrast against the surface at the working hour, and a full duty cycle run without thermal cut-out. That last one matters for IP65 units in enclosed spaces, where a custom business logo projection light can pass every optical test and still trip after four hours in a hot ceiling void.

  • Image sharpness at the centre and all four corners
  • Contrast against the surface at the working hour
  • Full duty cycle run without thermal cut-out
  • Housing temperature after an hour at full output

Handover notes worth leaving behind

Leave four things behind: the throw distance and image width as installed, the gobo reference, the focus and zoom settings, and the supplier's contact for re-cutting artwork. Six months later, when somebody asks for a second unit to match, that sheet of paper is worth more than the manual.

  • Throw distance and image width as installed
  • Gobo reference and artwork file name
  • Zoom and focus settings
  • Supplier contact for re-cutting artwork

Common questions

How much power does a custom business logo projection light need?

It depends on the ambient light rather than the distance alone. For a controlled indoor surface the lower end of the 30–200 W range is usually enough; against a lit shop window or a facade at dusk you want the upper end. Measure the light already falling on the surface before ordering, because that number decides it.

How far can a custom business logo projection light throw?

Expect usable work between 5 and 25 m. What matters is the image width at that distance: the same unit can give a 1 m or a 3 m image depending on the lens, and the smaller one is always the brighter.

Can I project my own logo?

Yes — that is the point of a custom business logo projection light. Supply vector artwork if you have it, and check the thinnest stroke in the design, because that is what determines whether a glass gobo is required. Most artwork problems show up as lost detail rather than a failed unit.
