How to Install and Aim a Commercial Logo Projector

Installation is where a good commercial logo projector becomes a good result, or does not. Everything below is ordered the way the job should actually be done.

Survey before you drill

A commercial logo projector install is mostly survey work. Walk the site at the hour the projection will run, because the ambient light, the position of vehicles, and even the position of a display stand all change what works. Take a photo, measure the throw, and mark the cable route before ordering anything.

  1. Power within reach of the mounting point
  2. What the target surface is made of and how it is lit
  3. Whether the mounting point carries the weight
  4. Access for future servicing — ladder or powered platform

Mounting height and bracket choice

Aim for a straight-on shot and a reachable position. The geometry matters more than people expect: at 30 degrees off-axis a rectangular logo becomes visibly trapezoidal, and no amount of focus adjustment fixes it. If the only available position is steeply angled, plan the artwork to suit — or move the surface.

Aiming, zooming and focusing

Focus on the centre, then check the edges. A commercial logo projector focused on a flat wall should read evenly corner to corner; if it does not, the usual cause is an angled mount rather than a bad lens. Once you are happy, lock the focus if the unit allows it, because vibration and thermal cycling will otherwise move it over a season.

  2. Zoom until the image fills the intended area
  3. Focus on the centre of the image
  4. Check the corners — soft corners mean an angled mount

Power, cable routing and switching

Fit the cable gland the right way up and leave a drip loop. Those two details prevent most of the water ingress calls on outdoor commercial logo projector installs. Then confirm the supply is switched and labelled, so the site team can isolate the unit without hunting through a distribution board.

Commissioning checks

Commission in three checks: image sharpness at the corners, contrast against the surface at the working hour, and a full duty cycle run without thermal cut-out. That last one matters for IP65 units in enclosed spaces, where a commercial logo projector can pass every optical test and still trip after four hours in a hot ceiling void.

Handover notes worth leaving behind

Leave four things behind: the throw distance and image width as installed, the gobo reference, the focus and zoom settings, and the supplier's contact for re-cutting artwork. Six months later, when somebody asks for a second unit to match, that sheet of paper is worth more than the manual.

Common questions

Is a commercial logo projector suitable for outdoor use?

Only with the right rating. Look for IP65 on the housing and check that the cable gland is included in that rating, because the entry point is where water actually gets in. Exposure, salt air and access for servicing all matter as much as the number.

Can I project my own logo?

Yes — that is the point of a commercial logo projector. Supply vector artwork if you have it, and check the thinnest stroke in the design, because that is what determines whether a glass gobo is required. Most artwork problems show up as lost detail rather than a failed unit.

How much power does a commercial logo projector need?

It depends on the ambient light rather than the distance alone. For a controlled indoor surface the lower end of the 40–250 W range is usually enough; against a lit shop window or a facade at dusk you want the upper end. Measure the light already falling on the surface before ordering, because that number decides it.
