Start with the throw distance
Ask where the fixture will physically sit before asking what it should cost. On a logo projector light the throw distance sets the lens, the lens sets the image size, and only then does wattage become a meaningful question. Buyers who start with the power figure usually end up with a unit that is either wasted on a short throw or hopeless on a long one.
- Distance from the realistic mounting point to the centre of the target surface
- Image width you actually need, measured on the wall
- Whether the surface is flat, matte and square to the beam
- Any obstacle in the beam path — signage, foliage, display stands
Match output to the ambient light
Match the output to the darkest hour you care about, not the brightest. If the logo projector light only has to work after sunset, 15 W may be generous; if it has to hold up against a shop window at 4pm, you are looking at the top of the 15–150 W range and still managing expectations. Overbuying power to solve an ambient light problem is the most expensive way to fix it.

- Surface reflectance — matte white gives the most back
- Image width, since halving the area doubles the brightness
- Whether the unit has to compete with daylight
The optics decide what you can actually adjust
Zoom and focus are the two adjustments you will use ten times and the ones cheap units make hardest. A zoom range lets one logo projector light cover several mounting positions, which matters when the final bracket location is decided on site rather than on paper. Look for a lens that holds focus across the zoom travel, because a unit that has to be re-focused every time you zoom is a unit that will be left slightly out of focus.
Gobo material: glass or metal
Choose the gobo from the artwork file. Solid block logos survive etching into stainless steel and will outlast the projector, but anything with hairlines, grey levels or a photographic element has to go on glass. This is the decision that most often gets made backwards — the buyer orders a cheap metal gobo, sees the result on the wall, and reorders in glass two weeks later.
Ingress rating and mounting environment
Match the rating to the site honestly. A logo projector light mounted under a canopy needs far less protection than one on an open facade, and the price difference across ratings is real. What catches people out is the cable entry — a housing can be rated IP44 while the gland supplied with it is not, and that is where water actually gets in.
