A Practical Buying Guide to the Business Logo Projector

Buying guides 2 min read

Most business logo projector purchases are decided on a wattage figure and regretted on a wall. The specification that actually governs the result is the one nobody writes down: the distance between the bracket and the surface.

Start with the throw distance

The first number to fix is the throw. A business logo projector rated for 4โ€“25 m covers a very different wall at the near end than at the far end, and the image width roughly triples across that range on a typical zoom lens. Measure from the realistic mounting point โ€” the one the site will actually let you use โ€” and write it down before you look at any product page.

Match output to the ambient light

The wattage question is really an ambient light question. Daylight starts around 10,000 lux, a lit retail interior runs 300โ€“500 lux, and a dim restaurant may sit under 100 lux. A business logo projector has to beat whatever is already falling on that surface, which is why the same model can look brilliant in an office entrance and invisible in a corporate lobby.

  • Ambient light on the surface at the hour of use
  • Surface reflectance โ€” matte white gives the most back
  • Image width, since halving the area doubles the brightness
  • Whether the unit has to compete with daylight

The optics decide what you can actually adjust

Ask two questions about the lens: what is the throw ratio range, and can focus be locked. A business logo projector with a 3:1 zoom will cover 4 to 25 m from the same bracket, but only if the focus mechanism holds its setting once the housing is warm and the site has been vibrating for a month.

What your artwork forces you to buy

Your artwork decides the gobo material, not the other way round. A glass gobo handles fine strokes, gradients and photographic halftones that a metal stencil simply cannot hold, but it costs more and needs a little more care in handling. If the design is a solid single-colour mark with no fine detail, metal is cheaper and effectively unbreakable; if it has thin script or a gradient, glass is the only honest answer.

Ingress rating and mounting environment

The ingress rating is a statement about where the unit can live, not how good it is. IP65 on a business logo projector means it will cope with the conditions it was tested for โ€” driving rain, dust, or in the case of indoor ratings, nothing more than a wipe-down. If the install is under a soffit that only sees wind-blown rain, an indoor-rated unit may be fine; if it is exposed on a conference floor, IP65 is the floor, not the target.

What to send when you ask for a quote

Before you send the enquiry, walk the site once with a tape measure and a phone camera. Throw distance, surface colour, the position of power, and a photo of the ambient light at the relevant hour will get you an accurate business logo projector recommendation on the first reply โ€” and they are all things you will need on install day anyway.

  • Throw distance and mounting height
  • Required image width
  • Surface description and colour
  • Ambient light at the hour of use
  • Artwork file, vector if available

Common questions

How much power does a business logo projector need?

It depends on the ambient light rather than the distance alone. For a controlled indoor surface the lower end of the 20โ€“200 W range is usually enough; against a lit shop window or a facade at dusk you want the upper end. Measure the light already falling on the surface before ordering, because that number decides it.

Do I need a professional to install it?

Indoors on an existing supply, no. Outdoors, at height, or where new cabling is needed, yes: the risk on those jobs is the supply and the access rather than the projector itself.

Is a business logo projector suitable for outdoor use?

Only with the right rating. Look for IP65 on the housing and check that the cable gland is included in that rating, because the entry point is where water actually gets in. Exposure, salt air and access for servicing all matter as much as the number.
