What a Store Logo Projection Light Actually Costs

Cost & pricing 2 min read

The price of a store logo projection light is one line in a budget that has four. The other three are where projects run over.

Four cost lines, not one

Buyers compare the hardware price and then discover the artwork, the mounting hardware and the access costs. A store logo projection light is a system: light source, optics, a piece of custom glass, a bracket and somebody's time on a ladder. Quoting only the first of those produces budgets that do not survive the first year.

  1. Hardware — the fixture, lens and bracket
  2. Custom artwork — the gobo, and every re-cut after it
  3. Installation — access, power and making good
  4. Running cost — cleaning, power and replacement cycles

Hardware

Hardware scales with output and rating. A store logo projection light at the bottom of the 25–150 W range for a sheltered indoor position is a different product from one at the top of the range rated IP44 for an exposed facade — same category, very different bill. The jump is driven by the LED, the driver, the thermal design and the housing, in that order.

  • Output, which sets the LED, driver and heatsink size
  • Ingress rating, which sets the sealing and housing design
  • Lens quality, which sets how much output reaches the wall
  • Finish and hardware, which set how it survives the site

The recurring line

The artwork cost hides in the reorders. Engraving a glass gobo is not expensive per unit, but minimum quantities, shipping and the time spent re-approving artwork add up. Keep the original vector file, record the gobo reference, and every future reorder is a formality rather than a redesign.

  • Engraving per unit, and any minimum quantity
  • Artwork preparation if the supplied file needs work
  • Shipping, especially on small reorders
  • Lead time, and the cost of waiting

Installation, power and access

Price the site, not the fixture. Two identical store logo projection light installs can differ by a factor of three depending on access, power availability and whether work has to happen outside trading hours. Get that number before the order, not after.

Total cost of ownership

Over three years the honest ranking usually changes. Add the hardware, the artwork reorders, the cleaning and the electricity, and the cheapest store logo projection light on the unit price is rarely the cheapest to own. The two variables that dominate are servicing access and gobo replacement frequency.

  • Hardware, once
  • Artwork reorders, every rebrand or new site
  • Cleaning, twice a year
  • Power, continuously

Cuts that cost you later

Save on image size, not on output. Halving the projected area doubles the contrast at the wall for nothing, and it lets a smaller store logo projection light do the same job. Do not save on the ingress rating, the bracket, or the artwork file — those three cuts cost more than they save within two years.

Common questions

What surface works best?

Matte and light-coloured, square to the beam. Glossy surfaces reflect the light away from the viewer and dark ones absorb it; both cost you contrast that no amount of extra wattage recovers cheaply. If the surface is fixed, reduce the image size instead.

Is a store logo projection light suitable for outdoor use?

Only with the right rating. Look for IP44 on the housing and check that the cable gland is included in that rating, because the entry point is where water actually gets in. Exposure, salt air and access for servicing all matter as much as the number.

What size gobo do I need?

The gobo has to match the holder in your specific store logo projection light, and the image area is smaller than the outer diameter — a 53 mm gobo may only expose 45 mm. Ask for both figures and draw the artwork to the image area, not the outside dimension.
