Logo Projector Light Maintenance: What to Do and How Often

Maintenance 2 min read

Maintenance on a logo projector light is mostly about noticing. The tasks are short; the trick is doing them before the output has visibly dropped.

Why output fades quietly

Maintenance on a logo projector light is mostly about noticing. Because the loss is gradual, the comparison that matters is against how it looked on day one, not against how it looked last week. Take a reference photo at install and repeat it annually under the same conditions.

  • Take a reference photo at install, under the conditions it will run in
  • Repeat it annually, same hour, same house lighting
  • Log any cleaning or gobo change with a date
  • Compare before assuming the unit has failed

Cleaning the optics

Frequency depends on the site, not the product. A logo projector light in a clean lobby needs attention once a year; one in a kitchen, a workshop or beside a road needs it quarterly. Set the interval from the environment and write it into the site calendar.

When the image, not the lamp, is the problem

The gobo is the part that carries the image and the part most often blamed for a fault that is elsewhere. Check it against a light before assuming the optics have failed: a hairline crack or a patch of degraded coating shows up clearly when you tilt it. Keep the reference code so reorders are exact.

  • Inspect against a light at an angle for cracks and crazing
  • Look for marks that show in the image but not on the glass
  • Replace rather than clean a degraded coated gobo
  • Record the reference code for exact reorders

The half-yearly inspection

Heat and water are the two things that kill a logo projector light early. Check that ventilation paths are clear, that seals are still seated, and that the cable entry is intact. If the unit is in an enclosed void, measure the air temperature around it — the LED life figure assumes it is not cooking.

  • Housing temperature after an hour at full output
  • Seals and gaskets still seated and supple
  • Bracket tight and the unit still on aim
  • Cable gland intact and the drip loop in place

Before the busy period

Do the full-duty test before you need it. A logo projector light that has sat idle through the quiet months should be run for a complete cycle at the working hour, with the house lights as they will be, before the season starts. That one test catches most of what would otherwise become a mid-event failure.

  • Run a full duty cycle at the working hour
  • Check for thermal cut-out after an hour or two
  • Clean the optics before the season starts
  • Confirm the timer and switch settings

Spares worth holding

The spares list is short because the failure modes are few. A spare glass gobo covers image damage; a spare control handset covers the most common support call; a recorded artwork reference covers everything else. Keep them together with the install record.

Common questions

What surface works best?

Matte and light-coloured, square to the beam. Glossy surfaces reflect the light away from the viewer and dark ones absorb it; both cost you contrast that no amount of extra wattage recovers cheaply. If the surface is fixed, reduce the image size instead.

How often does it need cleaning?

Twice a year in a clean interior, quarterly anywhere with dust, grease or road exposure. Cleaning is the cheapest maintenance there is and the most often deferred — and deferred cleaning is what makes a logo projector light look like it has failed.

How far can a logo projector light throw?

Realistically 3 to 20 m for this class, with the image widening as the distance grows. The limiting factor is rarely reach — it is contrast, which fails well before the beam does. Ask for image width at your throw rather than a maximum distance.
