Where the effect lands and where it does not
A logo light projector is not decoration, it is a way of putting a message on a surface that already exists. It earns its keep where a permanent sign is too expensive, too slow to permit, or simply not allowed — and it struggles where the ambient light is stronger than the projector can beat. Knowing which is which before you buy saves the most money.
Application one — café counter
In a café counter the logo light projector is doing straightforward work: a fixed mark, on a known surface, at a predictable hour. These are the installs that go right first time. Size the output for the ambient light at that hour, pick a metal gobo that holds the artwork, and the result is stable for years with a twice-yearly clean.
Application two — hair salon
hair salon is harder, because the logo light projector is competing with lighting somebody else controls. The fix is rarely more power — it is choosing a surface, an angle, and an hour where the projection has a chance. Move the image off the most lit part of the wall, project onto a matte surface rather than a glossy one, and the same unit performs completely differently.
Application three — dental practice
The dental practice install is where the survey earns its money. Throw distances at the top of the 3–18 m range, uncontrolled ambient light, and access that may need a cherry picker all need settling before the logo light projector is specified. Most disappointing results trace back to one of these being assumed rather than measured.
Settings that change with the venue
Match the configuration to the surface: matte and light-coloured surfaces give the most back, glossy or dark ones eat the image. On difficult surfaces, reduce the image size before increasing the power — it is cheaper and it works.
| Application | Recommended output | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| café counter | 15 W class | Controlled surface, short throw |
| hair salon | 15–120 W | Competing with existing lighting |
| dental practice | 120 W and up | Reduce image size before adding power |
What to check before committing
Three checks decide most applications: ambient light at the hour of use, the angle between the beam and the surface, and whether the image lands on something matte. A logo light projector that fails any of these will not be rescued by a bigger lamp.
