Read the sheet in the order it is installed
A datasheet is written to be read in the order the product was designed, which is rarely the order you need it. Read an IP65 gobo light projector sheet backwards: start from the image you want on the wall, then the distance, then the optics, then the light source. The headline wattage is the last thing to look at and the first thing most people compare.
Lumens, watts and what reaches the wall
Wattage tells you the running cost, not the result. Two IP65 gobo light projector models at the same wattage can differ by 30% at the wall because of lens efficiency and LED binning. What you actually care about is contrast: the image needs to be meaningfully brighter than the surface it lands on, and that is a lux comparison, not a lumen one.
Throw distance and image size
Throw distance without image width is meaningless, and plenty of sheets quote only one. an IP65 gobo light projector that throws 30 m might give you a 1 m logo at that distance or a 6 m one, depending on the lens — a difference that decides whether the install works. Always ask for the pair: distance and the resulting image size.
Gobo size, image area and resolution
The spec most sheets omit is the maximum artwork resolution the optics can resolve. an IP65 gobo light projector with a good lens will render fine detail that a cheaper unit turns to mush, which means the limiting factor is often the projector, not the gobo. If your design has thin strokes, ask what line width the system holds at your throw distance.
The compliance block
The electrical block is boring and expensive to get wrong. Confirm the input voltage range matches your supply, check whether the IP65 gobo light projector ships with a local plug, and look for CE, RoHS and FCC marks if the install is commercial. A unit that is electrically fine but uncertified will not pass a site inspection in most markets.
What a good supplier answers without hesitating
