Surface First
Matte surfaces (carpet, painted concrete, dance-floor vinyl) hold the image. Glossy tile, polished stone, and waxed wood reflect the beam and wash the logo out.
Aim and Safety
Mount the projector high and aim straight down to avoid shining into eyes and to keep the cable off the walkway. Use a floor-safe cable cover or run it overhead.
- High mount, perpendicular to the floor.
- Cable routed away from foot traffic.
- No trip hazard at the entry point.
- Brightness dimmed so it does not blind.
Brightness
Floor marks compete with overhead lighting and moving bodies. A planning table:
| Venue | Suggested lumens |
|---|---|
| Dim reception | 1,500–3,000 |
| Lit lobby | 3,000–6,000 |
| Busy trade floor | 5,000–8,000 |
Keep It Sharp
Short throw distances and a perpendicular angle keep the mark square. An angled floor projection keystones into a trapezoid.
Dance-Floor Etiquette
For a first-dance monogram, dim the surrounding lights so the mark becomes the focal point, and confirm the floor overlay is non-slip.
Test With People In
Always test with the real lighting and a few people walking — foot traffic and overhead lights change everything versus an empty room.
