How to Project a Logo on Glass Storefront

How-to 1 min read

A glass storefront is the hardest ordinary surface: it mirrors your own light and the street behind it.

Front vs Inside Projection

Projecting from outside onto glass means your own beam reflects back and the street reflects too. Projecting from inside, angled at the glass, can work for interior-facing marks but still fights exterior light.

Beat the Reflection

Reduce glare by aiming off-perpendicular and by dimming interior lights behind the projector. A high-contrast, bold logo reads better than a delicate one on glass.

Daylight Is the Enemy

A daytime storefront needs very high lumens to overcome sun and sky. If the mark must read by day, plan 6,000+ lumens and an IP65 sealed unit.

Surface Prep

Clean glass removes smears that scatter light. Avoid projecting through tinted or mirrored glass — it kills the image.

Positioning the Fixture

Mount low and angled up at the glass from outside, or high inside aimed down, whichever avoids your own reflection in the capture.

A Quick Reality Check

If the storefront gets direct sun, a gobo may never beat it by day. Consider a recessed or shaded window, or accept night-only branding.

Common questions

Can I project on glass during the day?

Only with very high lumens (6,000+) and a bold mark; tinted or mirrored glass will kill the image.

Front or inside projection on a window?

Inside angled at the glass works for interior-facing marks; outside front projection fights reflection — aim off-perpendicular either way.

Why does my logo reflect back at me?

Glass mirrors your own beam and the street. Dim interior lights behind the unit and use a high-contrast mark.

How bright at night on glass?

Night is easy — 1,500–3,000 lumens usually reads clearly with low ambient light.

Should the glass be clean?

Yes. Smears and dust scatter light and soften the logo.

What if the storefront gets direct sun?

A gobo may never win by day; use a shaded window or night-only branding.
