Survey before you drill
an outdoor advertising logo projector install is mostly survey work. Walk the site at the hour the projection will run, because the ambient light, the position of vehicles, and even the position of a display stand all change what works. Take a photo, measure the throw, and mark the cable route before ordering anything.
- Nearest power and whether it is switched
- Surface material, colour and ambient light at the working hour
- Fixing substrate and bracket load
- How the unit will be reached for cleaning
Mounting height and bracket choice
Aim for a straight-on shot and a reachable position. The geometry matters more than people expect: at 30 degrees off-axis a rectangular logo becomes visibly trapezoidal, and no amount of focus adjustment fixes it. If the only available position is steeply angled, plan the artwork to suit — or move the surface.
- Bracket rated above the fixture weight
- Stainless fixings for exposed positions
- Beam as close to perpendicular as the site allows
- Position reachable without powered access
The order of adjustments
Adjust in this order: position, zoom, focus, then rotation. Moving the bracket after you have focused wastes the whole sequence, so get the geometry settled first. On an outdoor advertising logo projector, set the zoom to frame the image on the target surface, then focus at the centre of the image and check the corners — if the corners are softer than the centre, the beam is off-axis.
- Confirm the geometry and tighten the bracket
- Zoom until the image fills the intended area
- Focus on the centre of the image
- Check the corners — soft corners mean an angled mount
The part that fails inspection, not the optics
Power is where commercial installs fail inspection. an outdoor advertising logo projector drawing 100–400 W is not a problem in itself, but a cable run across a public area, a domestic extension lead, or an unswitched spur all are. Plan a fixed supply, use a gland rated to the environment, and route the cable so it is neither a trip hazard nor the first thing a cleaner unplugs.
Commissioning checks
Test the way it will be used, not the way it was installed. Run the outdoor advertising logo projector at the hour it is meant to run, with the house lights at their normal setting, and look at the image from where the audience will stand. A unit that looks fine at 2pm in an empty room can be invisible at 7pm with the lights on.
- Image sharpness at the centre and all four corners
- Contrast against the surface at the working hour
- Full duty cycle run without thermal cut-out
- Housing temperature after an hour at full output
Handover notes worth leaving behind
The handover note should include the artwork file reference and the supplier's reorder code. Custom gobos are the one part of an outdoor advertising logo projector install that cannot be improvised on site, and re-cutting from the original file is far cheaper than redrawing it.
- Installed throw distance and image size
- Gobo size and reference code
- Lens settings
- Reorder contact and lead time
