Logo Light Projector Installation: Position, Focus and Handover

Installation 2 min read

A logo light projector is easy to mount and easy to mount wrong. The faults that generate callouts are almost always settled in the first hour on site, before any tool comes out of the bag.

Survey before you drill

Installations go wrong in the first hour, on the survey, when somebody decides where the bracket goes before checking what is behind the wall. Before you drill for a logo light projector, confirm four things: the power position, what the surface is made of, whether the mounting point can carry the weight, and where the image will actually land once the furniture and signage are in place.

  • Nearest power and whether it is switched
  • Surface material, colour and ambient light at the working hour
  • Fixing substrate and bracket load
  • How the unit will be reached for cleaning

Mounting height and bracket choice

Aim for a straight-on shot and a reachable position. The geometry matters more than people expect: at 30 degrees off-axis a rectangular logo becomes visibly trapezoidal, and no amount of focus adjustment fixes it. If the only available position is steeply angled, plan the artwork to suit — or move the surface.

Aiming, zooming and focusing

Do the final focus at the hour the unit will actually run, with the surface at its normal temperature. A logo light projector focused on a cold wall at 9am can drift slightly as the housing warms, and on long throws that drift is the difference between crisp and acceptable.

The part that fails inspection, not the optics

Fit the cable gland the right way up and leave a drip loop. Those two details prevent most of the water ingress calls on outdoor logo light projector installs. Then confirm the supply is switched and labelled, so the site team can isolate the unit without hunting through a distribution board.

Commissioning checks

Before you leave site, run the unit for an hour and check the housing temperature. Thermal problems on a logo light projector rarely show up in the first ten minutes, and a unit that cuts out at 90 minutes will be a callback you could have caught on install day.

  • Image sharpness at the centre and all four corners
  • Contrast against the surface at the working hour
  • Full duty cycle run without thermal cut-out
  • Housing temperature after an hour at full output

Handover notes worth leaving behind

Leave four things behind: the throw distance and image width as installed, the gobo reference, the focus and zoom settings, and the supplier's contact for re-cutting artwork. Six months later, when somebody asks for a second unit to match, that sheet of paper is worth more than the manual.

  • Throw distance and image width as installed
  • Gobo reference and artwork file name
  • Zoom and focus settings
  • Supplier contact for re-cutting artwork

Common questions

How long does the light source last?

LED sources in this class are rated in the tens of thousands of hours to L70, but that assumes reasonable cooling. A logo light projector running hot in an enclosed void will not reach the figure. Thermal design and cleaning access determine the real number more than the datasheet does.

What size gobo do I need?

Match it to the holder, and note that image area and outer diameter are different numbers. Standardising on one size across your sites makes every later reorder quick and cheap.

Do I need a professional to install it?

Indoors on an existing supply, no. Outdoors, at height, or where new cabling is needed, yes: the risk on those jobs is the supply and the access rather than the projector itself.
