Measure the throw before you read any spec
Every LED gobo projector decision starts from one measurement that most buyers skip: the distance between where the unit can be mounted and the surface it has to cover. Once you have that figure, the power bracket narrows from everything on the market to a handful of models, and the lens choice follows from it. Work it out with a tape, not from a floor plan, because ceiling voids, signage and light fittings move the real mounting point by a metre or more.

- Surface material and colour
- Whether the beam can be square to the surface
Match output to the ambient light
Output is not a property of the lamp, it is a relationship between the lamp and the room. An indoor corridor sitting at 300 lux will swallow a 30 W image completely, while the same unit reads clearly in a 50 lux courtyard at dusk. Before you size an LED gobo projector, find out how bright the target surface already is at the hour it will be used — that single measurement decides whether you need 15 W or 300 W.
The optics decide what you can actually adjust
The optics decide what you can correct later. A fixed lens LED gobo projector has to be positioned correctly the first time; a zoom lens lets you frame the image after the bracket is up. In practice that difference is worth more than an extra 20 W, because the most common install problem is not brightness — it is an image that lands slightly off the intended surface with no way to adjust it.
Gobo material: glass or metal
One practical test: look at the thinnest stroke in the design at the size it will be projected. If it is under a couple of millimetres at the wall, a cut metal stencil will not hold it and a glass gobo is required. That single check prevents the most common LED gobo projector disappointment — a logo that looks perfect in the proof and falls apart in light.
Ingress rating and mounting environment
The ingress rating is a statement about where the unit can live, not how good it is. IP65 on an LED gobo projector means it will cope with the conditions it was tested for — driving rain, dust, or in the case of indoor ratings, nothing more than a wipe-down. If the install is under a soffit that only sees wind-blown rain, an indoor-rated unit may be fine; if it is exposed on an exhibition booth, IP65 is the floor, not the target.

Before you send the enquiry, walk the site once with a tape measure and a phone camera. Throw distance, surface colour, the position of power, and a photo of the ambient light at the relevant hour will get you an accurate LED gobo projector recommendation on the first reply — and they are all things you will need on install day anyway.
