Where the effect lands and where it does not
an HD gobo projector is not decoration, it is a way of putting a message on a surface that already exists. It earns its keep where a permanent sign is too expensive, too slow to permit, or simply not allowed — and it struggles where the ambient light is stronger than the projector can beat. Knowing which is which before you buy saves the most money.
Application one — large facade
In a large facade the HD gobo projector is doing straightforward work: a fixed mark, on a known surface, at a predictable hour. These are the installs that go right first time. Size the output for the ambient light at that hour, pick a glass gobo that holds the artwork, and the result is stable for years with a twice-yearly clean.
Application two — convention hall
In a convention hall the competition is ambient light, and brute force is the expensive answer. Before moving from 50 W to 300 W, try relocation: a darker corner of the same wall, a surface angled away from the main fittings, or a slightly smaller image. Halving the image area doubles the brightness for free.
Application three — theatre stage
theatre stage is the demanding case, and where an HD gobo projector either proves itself or gets returned. Longer throws, more ambient light, and usually a surface nobody chose for the purpose. These installs need the top of the output range, careful aiming, and often a compromise on image size — a smaller, brighter logo beats a large, washed-out one.
Settings that change with the venue
Match the configuration to the surface: matte and light-coloured surfaces give the most back, glossy or dark ones eat the image. On difficult surfaces, reduce the image size before increasing the power — it is cheaper and it works.

Three site questions
