Custom Logo Projector Compared: What You Gain and What You Give Up

Comparisons 2 min read

Choosing between a custom logo projector and the next option up is easier once you stop comparing specifications and start comparing jobs.

Set the comparison on the same wall

Compare at the same distance, on the same surface, at the same hour. Every meaningful difference between a custom logo projector and the alternative shows up there and nowhere else — on a spec sheet both options look capable. Set up the comparison on the wall you actually have, and the decision usually makes itself.

  • Throw distance and image size, fixed for both options
  • The surface and the ambient light at the working hour
  • The artwork, and whether it contains text or fine detail
  • How each option will be serviced

Light source and output

Where the brightness comes from determines what you can do with it. An LED custom logo projector can be switched, dimmed and cycled without penalty; older sources need warm-up and suffer from frequent switching. For anything on a timer or a sensor, LED is not just more efficient — it is the only sensible choice.

  • Instant strike and tolerance of frequent switching
  • Output stability over the duty cycle
  • Driver quality and thermal design
  • Measured output at the wall, not rated lumens

Image quality and artwork freedom

Detail is the constraint that decides most comparisons. A custom logo projector carrying a custom gobo will reproduce a script monogram cleanly; alternatives that generate the image electronically or mechanically cannot. Check the thinnest stroke in your artwork against what each system holds before you weigh anything else.

  1. Can it render text and fine strokes
  2. Does it hold gradients or photographic halftones
  3. Gobo or pattern changeover time
  4. Maximum artwork resolution the optics can resolve

Running cost, heat and service life

The purchase price is the first payment, not the last. LEDs in this class are rated in the tens of thousands of hours to L70, but that figure assumes reasonable thermal management — a custom logo projector cooking in an enclosed void will not reach it. Add gobo replacement, cleaning access, and the cost of the electricity, and the ranking often changes.

  1. Rated hours and what end of life means
  2. Cleaning frequency and access method
  3. Gobo or pattern replacement cost and lead time
  4. Power draw at the actual duty cycle

The short version

Set the two options side by side on the criteria that survive contact with a real site: what they can draw, what they cost to run, what they need to stay bright, and how they are serviced. The table is deliberately short — if a criterion does not change the decision, it does not belong in it.

How to choose

If you are still unsure, buy one of each and put them on the wall for a week. Differences that look marginal in a table are unmistakable on site, and one custom logo projector is a small price to pay for getting a rollout right.

Common questions

How often does it need cleaning?

Once or twice a year indoors, more often in a kitchen, workshop or roadside position. Set the interval from the environment and put it in the site calendar, because gradual output loss is easy to miss.

What surface works best?

A matte, light-coloured, flat surface square to the beam. Textured or glossy walls scatter the image and patterned ones compete with it. Where the surface cannot be changed, a smaller image is the effective fix.

Can the image be changed later?

That is the advantage over permanent signage — the message changes without touching the building. Keep the artwork file and the gobo reference and a changeover is a formality rather than a project.
