Custom Logo Projector Pricing: Where the Money Goes

Cost & pricing 2 min read

Quotes for a custom logo projector look similar because they are quoting the same thing: the fixture. The differences show up in the lines nobody asked about.

Why the unit price misleads

Buyers compare the hardware price and then discover the artwork, the mounting hardware and the access costs. A custom logo projector is a system: light source, optics, a piece of custom glass, a bracket and somebody's time on a ladder. Quoting only the first of those produces budgets that do not survive the first year.

  • Hardware — the fixture, lens and bracket
  • Custom artwork — the gobo, and every re-cut after it
  • Installation — access, power and making good
  • Running cost — cleaning, power and replacement cycles

What you pay for the fixture

Hardware scales with output and rating. A custom logo projector at the bottom of the 20–200 W range for a sheltered indoor position is a different product from one at the top of the range rated IP65 for an exposed facade — same category, very different bill. The jump is driven by the LED, the driver, the thermal design and the housing, in that order.

  1. Output, which sets the LED, driver and heatsink size
  2. Ingress rating, which sets the sealing and housing design
  3. Lens quality, which sets how much output reaches the wall
  4. Finish and hardware, which set how it survives the site

Custom artwork and gobos

Budget for artwork as a subscription, not a purchase. A single custom logo projector might need one gobo in five years; a twenty-site rollout will need dozens, and every one of them is a small project with artwork, proofing and shipping. Standardising the file and the size is the single biggest saving available.

  • Engraving per unit, and any minimum quantity
  • Artwork preparation if the supplied file needs work
  • Shipping, especially on small reorders
  • Lead time, and the cost of waiting

The line that surprises people

Installation is where budgets break, because it depends on the site rather than the product. Access equipment, a new power run, out-of-hours working and making good afterwards are all variable and none of them appear in a custom logo projector quote. Survey before you commit, and price the access separately.

  • Access equipment — ladder, scaffold or powered platform
  • Power run and any making good afterwards
  • Out-of-hours or trading-hours working
  • Fixings, bracket and cable management

Total cost of ownership

The three-year picture: hardware once, artwork a few times, cleaning twice a year, power continuously. Of these, the one buyers underestimate is cleaning — and the one that decides it is whether the unit can be reached with a ladder.

Cuts that cost you later

Save on image size, not on output. Halving the projected area doubles the contrast at the wall for nothing, and it lets a smaller custom logo projector do the same job. Do not save on the ingress rating, the bracket, or the artwork file — those three cuts cost more than they save within two years.

  • Halve the projected area rather than double the watts
  • Pick a matte, light-coloured surface
  • Mount square to the beam to avoid wasted output
  • Hold the artwork file and gobo reference on record

Common questions

Can the image be changed later?

That is the advantage over permanent signage — the message changes without touching the building. Keep the artwork file and the gobo reference and a changeover is a formality rather than a project.

How long does the light source last?

LED sources in this class are rated in the tens of thousands of hours to L70, but that assumes reasonable cooling. A custom logo projector running hot in an enclosed void will not reach the figure. Thermal design and cleaning access determine the real number more than the datasheet does.

How often does it need cleaning?

Once or twice a year indoors, more often in a kitchen, workshop or roadside position. Set the interval from the environment and put it in the site calendar, because gradual output loss is easy to miss.
