Custom Business Logo Projection Light: Specs That Matter and Specs That Don't

Specs explained 2 min read

Two custom business logo projection lights can carry identical headline figures and behave completely differently on site. The difference is in the numbers most sheets leave out, which is where this starts.

Read the sheet in the order it is installed

Nothing on a spec sheet is dishonest; plenty of it is irrelevant. A custom business logo projection light sheet will quote lumen output, power draw and beam angle, but what you need is image width at your throw distance and contrast against the light already on the surface. Those require two more numbers the sheet usually does not give you, which is why they are worth asking for.

Output numbers, ranked by how much they lie

Wattage tells you the running cost, not the result. Two custom business logo projection light models at the same wattage can differ by 30% at the wall because of lens efficiency and LED binning. What you actually care about is contrast: the image needs to be meaningfully brighter than the surface it lands on, and that is a lux comparison, not a lumen one.

The two numbers that must be quoted together

Throw distance without image width is meaningless, and plenty of sheets quote only one. A custom business logo projection light that throws 25 m might give you a 1 m logo at that distance or a 6 m one, depending on the lens — a difference that decides whether the install works. Always ask for the pair: distance and the resulting image size.

ThrowTypical image widthPractical note
Short, around 5 m0.5 – 1.5 mBright and easy — most indoor work
Mid, around 25 m1.5 – 3 mWhere lens quality starts to matter
Long, beyond 25 m3 m and upContrast fails before reach does

Gobo size, image area and resolution

The spec most sheets omit is the maximum artwork resolution the optics can resolve. A custom business logo projection light with a good lens will render fine detail that a cheaper unit turns to mush, which means the limiting factor is often the projector, not the gobo. If your design has thin strokes, ask what line width the system holds at your throw distance.

IP rating and electrical data

IP65 is the number to check for anything outdoors, but read what it covers. The first digit is solid ingress, the second is liquid. IP65 on a custom business logo projection light means dust-tight and protected against water jets, and it says nothing about the bracket, the gland or the connector, which are the parts that actually fail. Ask whether the rating covers the whole assembly or just the housing.

What a good supplier answers without hesitating

The most revealing question is about failure. Ask what the most common warranty claim on this custom business logo projection light is and how it is resolved. A supplier who answers honestly is worth more than one with a slightly better spec sheet.

Common questions

How much power does a custom business logo projection light need?

Start from the ambient light. A dim interior needs very little; a chain store branch at the working hour may need the top of the 30–200 W range. Increasing image size costs more output than most buyers expect, so fix the size first, then the power.

What surface works best?

A matte, light-coloured, flat surface square to the beam. Textured or glossy walls scatter the image and patterned ones compete with it. Where the surface cannot be changed, a smaller image is the effective fix.

Can I project my own logo?

Yes — that is the point of a custom business logo projection light. Supply vector artwork if you have it, and check the thinnest stroke in the design, because that is what determines whether a glass gobo is required. Most artwork problems show up as lost detail rather than a failed unit.
