Business Logo Projector Compared: What You Gain and What You Give Up

Comparisons 2 min read

Comparisons between a business logo projector and the alternative tend to be made on price and settled on capability. The two rarely agree.

Set the comparison on the same wall

The comparison that matters is not the one on the datasheet. Two options with similar wattage can differ entirely in what they can draw, how long they last, and what they cost to keep running. Put them side by side on the real surface and rank them on the things you will live with, not the things that look good in a table.

  • Throw distance and image size, fixed for both options
  • The surface and the ambient light at the working hour
  • The artwork, and whether it contains text or fine detail
  • How each option will be serviced

Where the brightness comes from

Where the brightness comes from determines what you can do with it. An LED business logo projector can be switched, dimmed and cycled without penalty; older sources need warm-up and suffer from frequent switching. For anything on a timer or a sensor, LED is not just more efficient — it is the only sensible choice.

  • Instant strike and tolerance of frequent switching
  • Output stability over the duty cycle
  • Driver quality and thermal design
  • Measured output at the wall, not rated lumens

Image quality and artwork freedom

Ask what each option can actually draw. Fine strokes, gradients and photographic detail need an engraved glass gobo and a lens that can resolve it; simpler effects do not. Buyers often pay for capability they never use — or discover too late that the cheaper option cannot render the artwork they already approved.

  1. Can it render text and fine strokes
  2. Does it hold gradients or photographic halftones
  3. Gobo or pattern changeover time
  4. Maximum artwork resolution the optics can resolve

Running cost, heat and service life

The purchase price is the first payment, not the last. LEDs in this class are rated in the tens of thousands of hours to L70, but that figure assumes reasonable thermal management — a business logo projector cooking in an enclosed void will not reach it. Add gobo replacement, cleaning access, and the cost of the electricity, and the ranking often changes.

  • Rated hours and what end of life means
  • Cleaning frequency and access method
  • Gobo or pattern replacement cost and lead time
  • Power draw at the actual duty cycle

The short version

The short version: one option wins on image freedom, the other on raw output or simplicity. Which matters depends entirely on whether you are projecting a mark or an effect. Decide that first and the rest of the table reads itself.

Decide on the job, not the datasheet

The decision is usually obvious once the artwork is fixed. Text and brand marks need the business logo projector; washes and abstract movement do not. Where it stays genuinely close, buy the one that can be serviced from a ladder — that will be the difference you remember in year three.

  1. Does the job need text, a logo or fine detail
  2. Is the surface and ambient light controlled
  3. How often will the artwork change
  4. How will it be serviced in year three

Common questions

What surface works best?

A matte, light-coloured, flat surface square to the beam. Textured or glossy walls scatter the image and patterned ones compete with it. Where the surface cannot be changed, a smaller image is the effective fix.

What size gobo do I need?

Match it to the holder, and note that image area and outer diameter are different numbers. Standardising on one size across your sites makes every later reorder quick and cheap.

Is a business logo projector suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, if it is specified for it. IP65 covers the housing against driving rain, but the bracket, the gland and the finish are what fail first on an exposed install. Ask what the rating covers before you assume it covers the assembly.
